Africa Day 2019 was successfully celebrated in Burkina Faso. Many activities have been undertaken in partnership between the Government of Burkina Faso, African Union (AU) and the Economic Communauty of West African States (ECOWAS). AU SAFGRAD was at the heart of the event. This document is briefly reporting on the celebrations.
The African Union Semi-Arid Food Grain Research and Development (AU SAFGRAD) has significantly contributed to the success of the celebration of Africa Day 25 May 2019 by leading key activities as follows:
1. AU-SAFGRAD oirganized a Radio Broadcasting competition on the information and knowledge on Africa Day, AUC , Agenda 2063 among others through Radio Omega which is considered as one of the most popluar radio chennels in the country. At the end of one (01) hour broadcasting programme, two young ladies won the game and have been rewarded by symbolic prizes comprised notably by pieces of Faso Danfani, the typical local material, and books on AU.
2. AU-SAFGRAD office has participated in the Exhibition which was organized by the Ministry of Integration and Diaspora. Along with the Minister of Integration and other institutions leaders, AU SAFGRAD Coordinator participated to the cutting of the symbolic ribbon of the event marking the official opening of the exhibition. This activity targeted mainly the numerous African communities living in Burkina Faso.
3. AU-SAFGRAD team was also in the frontline of the running, known here as « Cross Populaire », and aerobic session along with the Minister of Integration and Diaspora with hundreds of young people enjoying sports mixed to a form of dancing movements.
4.AUSAFGRAD coordinator delivered the message of H.E. ChairpersonAUC in the official launching of the celebrations organized by the Government of Burkina and which was attended by H.E. the Prime Minister representing the President of Burkina Faso, African Ambassadors, African organizations etc.
5.Last but not least, AU-SAFGRAD was member of the main panel discussing the theme of the year.
It is important to note that all these activities around the celebration of the day of Africa has been the subject of an exceptional media coverage by the local media including the written press, radio and national television.
