From March 31st to April 05th, 2013, AU-SAFGRAD Office represented by the Senior Information and Outreach Officer, attended in Nairobi, Kenya an Orientation Workshop on the issue of Climate SMART Agriculture.
The workshop was organized by the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) in collaboration with NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency and the International Center for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF). The organizers have received a grant from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) to implement a two-year project aiming at promoting adoption of CSA strategies that enhance agricultural productivity for improved food security and environment sustainability. Participants to the Workshop came from various organizations at global, continental and national levels in Africa. The purpose of the workshop was to stimulate collective action to leverage political, technical and financing support to grass-root, national and regional-level programmes and initiatives to scale-up the adoption the adoption of CSA practices in defining farming systems in Africa.
Scheduled for three days, the workshop finally was extended to five days. The three first days (March 31-April 02) were dedicated to the “CSA Orientation and Scaling-Up Workshop” while the two last days (April 02-03) concerned more specifically “Farming systems Orientation for CSA in the context of CAADP NAIP”. The new AU-SAFGRAD strategic Plan has been presented during the fourth day.
As way forward, the work plan of the initiative built during the workshop will be implemented as soon as possible.
