AU-SAFGRAD has organized a workshop on “Enhancing Measurement for Assessing R&D System Performance in the CAADP BR Process”, The workshop brought together, in addition to AU-SAFGRAD, a task force team of key experts including AU CAADP team, IFPRI, Akademya2063, AUDA NEPAD, Malabo commitment lead(IFPRI) expert, FAO and CGIAR expert.
The workshop has explored different ways to enhance measurement practices in order to effectively assess the performance of agricultural research and development (R&D) systems and also boosting Funding within the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Biannual Review (BR) process. More specifically the workshop intended to achieve the following:
- Consider more meaningful indicators: Question the validity of the agricultural R&D investment target of 1percent of AgGDP, against which countries are currently assessed and explore alternative realistic target to the current
- Sustainable Impact: Strategize on way forward on how to enable data collection across all African countries to enhance the capture of R&D performance, and establish organizational framework involving national and regional institutions for effective and efficient data collection efforts. Frame ideas for Post Malabo agenda, specifically focusing on commitments related to Agriculture Research
- Continuous Learning: Implement a continuous learning cycle to iteratively improve measurement approaches and drive systemic change.
Number of fruitful presentations and interventions have been presented by the participants during the workshop about the main topic of the workshop that led to important outcomes from the workshop.
