Multi-Stakeholder Validation Workshop on the Design of the Continental Pastoralism Data Management System (CPDMS). Senegal, Dakar, 15 – 17 December 2025

AU-SAFGRAD organised a validation workshop in Dakar, Senegal in the period from 15 – 17 December 2025, A consultancy team has been engaged to design the CPDMS, conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing systems, data needs, and technical gaps. A critical step in this process is to present the initial design findings and proposals to key stakeholders for review, feedback, and collective endorsement. This validation workshop was therefore essential to ensure the proposed system is technically sound, contextually relevant, and meets the practical needs of its future users.

The proposed system aims to build an interoperable continental database for pastoralism/livestock, using an Agile approach. Data is collected at the field level and aggregated down-up to the national, regional economic community, and African Union levels. Shared governance defines roles, mandates, protocols, and technical standards to ensure quality, confidentiality, and standardization. A technological prototype (Spring Boot + Angular) illustrates a decision-making dashboard with various key indicators.
