AU SAFGRAD ATTENDED THE 2016 CAADP PARTNERS’ BUSINESS MEETING 3-4 NOVEMBER, ADDIS-ABABA,ETHIOPIA
The 2016 CAADP Business Meeting was the first after the closure of the MDTF facility. It intended to provide a platform to discuss on the ways to accelerate the transformation process through supporting African Agriculture.
The participants to this strategic gathering included: the Commissioner of REA, DREA staff among which Ag. Director, CAADP team and technical offices representatives; delegates from RECs, International institutions and development partners (EU, World Bank, French Cooperation, German Cooperation, etc.). Dr Ahmed ELMEKASS, AU SAFGRAD Coordinator, and Mr Youssoupha MBENGUE, Senior Information and Outreach Officer were among the attendees.
In terms of agenda, the meeting did the following: (i) discuss the progress in CAADP implementation since the adoption of the Malabo Declaration, review the strategic documents for DREA, NPCA, DPCG, PAFO and CNC; (ii) define and agree on the engagements process towards finding required resources to support accelerated implementation of CAADP in order to deliver on Malabo Heads of State commitments; and (iii) Agree on revised coordination mechanisms and how progress towards common partners’ agenda will be reported on collectively.
Areas for substantive discussion during the CAADP Business Meeting included the following agenda items:
1. CAADP Implementation since Malabo Declaration: Status Progress report
a. Domestication of Malabo – New CAADP implementation Guidelines
b. Biennial Review Architecture
c. African Agriculture Transformation Scorecard
2. New Business Plan to Accelerate Implementation of Malabo
3. Partnership and Coordination mechanisms
4. Financing Malabo
At the end of two-day meeting, a final communiqué has been drafted with a strong commitment of the various actors to go forward in accelerating the implementation of Malobo and with the renewal of the support from development partners. The organizers have commited themselves to send later the various necessary documents.
